We’ve covered beautiful and practical, now on to powerful: like its X Series counterparts, the X1 would not be complete without BMW’s sophisticated infinitely-variable permanent all-wheel drive system. Integrated with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and engine management systems, BMW’s xDrive system can distribute up to 100% of the engine’s power to the front or rear axles. This level of control and agility in all driving conditions is unmatched by any other all-wheel drive system on the market. Safety is also top priority. The X1 xDrive28i encompasses the full range of BMW passive safety technology and has already achieved the highest 5-star rating in the demanding Euro NCAP crash test program.

Equipment includes standard front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, anti-whiplash front headrests and side head curtain for both front and rear occupants. All seats feature three-pivot automatic seatbelts, the front seats being equipped with belt force limiters and pyrotechnical belt tensioning. All of this translates to sheer driving pleasure. Behind the wheel, the X1 does not handle like a small SUV. The optimal axle load distribution of virtually 50:50 and its low centre of gravity, along with its impressive agility and maneuverability, give it an almost sport-car type feel.

Making its debut this April in Canada (it’s currently unavailable in the USA) the X1 will be available as a single model: X1 xDrive28i, featuring BMW’s all-new 2.0L 4-cylinder Twin Power Turbo gasoline engine with a single, twin-scroll turbocharger, high precision injection and Valvetronic variable valve lift. This innovative new engine produces 241hp and 258 lb-ft of torque – accelerating from 0 to 100 km in only 6.7 seconds, while maintaining excellent fuel economy at 6.4 L/100Km on highway driving. Premium options include comfort access, electric seats with memory, park distance control, navigation, BMW apps and

Xenon headlights. In creating the BMW X1, BMW has addressed the needs of the modern driver: from everyday traffic to active lifestyle adventures, practicality and functionality exist alongside superior performance and exceptional styling. All of this truly proves that good things really do come in small packages.
